a gay black woman's discovery of her jewish self

Aisha Mills and Danielle Moodie

Posted on: February 11, 2012

Last year I was invited to go to the GLAAD media awards on an assignment with an online magazine.  Through some technical errors on my part the videos never got to the source and I lost my writing job.  In my defense I’ve been using the same computer system for nearly a decade.  The control key and Z key are missing and it’s running on Windows 98.  I’m too poor to get anything new which makes me thing I should start that whole Paypal/donation thing over…Nonetheless, I got an amazing interview with these two wonderful women, Aisha Mills and Danielle Moodie, who are, to my knowledge, the first black lesbians to grace the pages of Essence Magazine as wives.  Really, Essence, there are a lot more of us out there then these two.  (Call me).

In honor of Black History Month I would like to congratulate Aisha and Danielle not only for being one of the first -same-sex couples to tie the knot in DC, but for being wonderfully strong black women.  Mazel tov!

Here’s the interview I did with them on the red carpet last year.  Apologies for the bad audio.
