The clock on my computer reads 6:21PM, which means that it still technically Shabbat. My second Shabbat as a Jew and I would have to say-my most successful. Not only did I make an entire dinner, with challah, from scratch-I celebrated Shabbat with my family, who are not Jewish. More details when I’m not chasing [...]

I’m back in Ohio helping out my family. Blogging will be spotty, but I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime, a post from last year.

I’m Jewish-that’s how! Yesterday was a truly wonderful experience that I still haven’t quite figured out how to word. Not only did I leave the mikveh Jewish, I got a new nephew! There was something really powerful about the warmth of the mikveh waters, it symbolized my re-birth as a Jewish woman. I couldn’t help [...]

I’ve been up since 4:15 AM when my cell phone beeped, a message alert from my mother. I opened it up and looked at my new nephew, Jacob, born a few moments prior. G-d truly is wonderful. I feel blessed to share my Jewish birthday with my newest nephew, whom I named. In 2 [...]

Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday I will be Jewish. On my last conversation with my rabbi, she asked me to reflect this Shabbat. I didn’t attend shul on either day but attended Shabbat dinner with friends. Shabbat didn’t feel particularly different than other Shabbats (sound a bit like Pesach?) No one could see what made that particular [...]

I’ve just finished Rabbi Joseph Telushkin’s book Hillel-If Not Now, When and have been inspired by more than a few passages. One of them is Tikkun Olam, a basic Jewish colloquialism that Hillel instituted over two thousand years ago. As Jews (look at me) we have the responsibility of Tikkun Olam, to repair the world. [...]

This time next week I will be Jewish. I’m not quite sure how to wrap my head around it, actually. It’s not like I didn’t know that this day would come, I’ve been planning for this day for over a year. Still, it’s seems so giant-and so incredibly small. Who cares? For all intensive purposes [...]
