My Favorite Psalm

Posted on: July 20, 2011

Noam Katz has a wonderful version of Psalm 150.  It’s not traditional, perhaps a little funky and jazzy with Latin influences in the electric guitar licks. Whenever it plays on my iPod I open my pocket Tanakh, flip to Psalm 150 and read (the Hebrew) while he sings each verse and read the English during the refrain.

The Psalms are comprised of songs of love, songs of war, poems of love, and songs of praise to God.  Of all of them, 150 is my favorite.

Hallelujah.

Praise God in His sanctuary;

  praise Him in the sky, His stronghold.

Praise Him for His mighty acts;

  praise Him for His exceeding greatness.

Praise Him with blasts of the horn;

  praise Him with the harp and lyre.

Praise Him with timbrel and dance;

 praise him with lute and pipe.

Praise him with resounding cymbals;

  praise him with loud-clashing cymbals.

Let all that breathes praise the Lord.

Hallelujah.

It’s such an easy Psalm, it’s short, and it reminds me of the blessing that is my life.  Things seem to be getting better, there are great things on the horizon, yet there are still many stumbling blocks.  I will admit that sometimes I get a little depressed but this Psalm helps me through.
