a gay black woman's discovery of her jewish self

Three Days

Posted on: August 14, 2011

Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday I will be Jewish.

On my last conversation with my rabbi, she asked me to reflect this Shabbat.  I didn’t attend shul on either day but attended Shabbat dinner with friends.  Shabbat didn’t feel particularly different than other Shabbats (sound a bit like Pesach?) No one could see what made that particular Shabbat different than any others, but it was different-it was my last Shabbat as a non-Jew.  Next week’s Shabbat will probably look similar to this week except for the fact that next Shabbat I will be Jewish.

I’m going to take the next few days to really reflect on where my journey has brought me.  Thanks to everyone who’s been on this ride.  I’m excited to share what my Jewish future brings!

I just completed my beit din and mikvah immersion about an hour ago. Can’t wait till you join the tribe as well!

Mazel Tov!! I’m so excited for you! Tomorrow is my big day and I’m oddly calm…I’m sure I’ll be tossing and turning all night :)

I’ve been counting down with you, though probably not quite as attentively as you have ;) , and I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow. I hope you enjoy the big day.
