a gay black woman's discovery of her jewish self

Updates on BG&J

As I mentioned in my letter to Ashkenazi Food, I had a great talk with the brains behind what is sure to be New York’s latest and best food craze-The Gefilteria.  The interview will go on Jewcy.com at the beginning of March-Stay Tuned!  In the meantime, be sure to RSVP for their launch party March 11.

I’m so excited for the Guest Blog Post that will be going up tomorrow.  Having not watched the Oprah special on Hasidic Jews, I gave the reigns of my blog to one of my friends, a black Orthodox Jewish woman.  Watching and reading the comments after the special aired about the lack of acknowledgement of LGBTQ Orthodox Jews as well as the portrayal of black Hasidic Jews through the eyes of one family, an implant to Crown Heights from Nebraska, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to write a piece about it.  Tomorrow’s piece is thoughtful, smart and eye-opening.  I can’t wait to share it with you!

On Wednesday I will be on a Hetrick-Martin Institute panel about passing.  The panel discussion will be in NYC from 5-6.  If you’re interested in going, leave me a comment and I’ll send you more information.

In the next few months I’ll be interviewing the duo behind Coming Out Muslim-Radical Acts of Love and the brains behind Shit New Yorkers Say.
